The Pan-American Small Group Medical Program

Pan-American Life Ins. Co. has developed a program for small employers (5-250 employees) that utilizes a unique form of direct excess loss insurance coverage called a "Spaggregate Accomodation."

Spaggregate coverage is an Aggregate Policy with an advancement Accommodation. This form of insurance allows employers the benefits of designing a self-insured health plan, without the normal cash flow fluctuations that occur with traditional self-insured programs.

Benefits from this program are:

  • Lower Maximum Cost: Maximum cost (fixed expense plus claims funding) is much lower than traditional self-insured plans that utilize specific and aggregate insurance protection.
  • Cash Flow Protection: Self-insured plans that utilize specific and aggregate protection require employers to pay fixed expenses, plus fund all claims, and then wait for reimbursement for claims amounts that exceeded the specific and/or aggregate attachment points. With Spaggregate protection, employer is only required to fund, on a monthly basis, the program costs for covered employees. Through a special advanced accomodation arrangement, Pan-American will provide immediate funds for eligible claims that exceed the employers Claims Reserve.
  • Employer Owned Claims Fund: If claims do not exceed the annual aggregate attachment point, any money that remains in the employer claims fund belongs to employer.
